After a Year Of Impact, More Opportunity Ahead
Athian celebrates success, producers and partners; looks forward to expanding
We are looking back on 2025 with tremendous gratitude for the major milestones Athian has achieved along with our partners. We facilitated millions in payments to dairy producers for verified emission reductions on their farms – a win, win for the industry and the environment. We also announced new protocol options and added valuable expertise to our Scientific Advisory Board and Investor Advisors.
The Athian Model is Working
In short, last year proved our hypothesis for Athian – that we could serve as a trusted convener for the livestock value chain and use technology to credibly solve the challenge of reaching Scope 3 goals. November was particularly rewarding in that we announced $18 million in payments to producers for their practice changes AND welcomed $4 million in new investment for the business, expanding our funding partners to include organizations representing every step in food production from farm to fork.
We could not have achieved such incredible growth without the customers who continued investing in sustainability last year, despite the headwinds, and purchased verified on-farm outcomes. Athian is pleased to work with some of the largest dairy cooperatives, processors and food brands, including Amazon Fresh, California Dairies, Inc., Foremost Farms, Land O' Lakes and Whole Foods Market, to help improve the environmental footprint of dairy products such as milk, cheese and other dairy ingredients. By working with Athian, these companies have been able to make verified progress toward their Scope 3 goals, reward producers for on-farm reductions and meet increasing consumer demand for more-sustainable products.
More Exciting Developments Ahead
While 2025 was a major year for us, it was just the beginning of our journey. We’re anticipating the validation of several new protocols in 2026, working toward expanding our technology offerings and looking forward to reaching more producers and meeting the needs of more customers with tiered service levels.
We expect to launch the Carbon Intensity (CI) protocol, which was developed in partnership with the National Milk Producers Federation’s FARM ES program and California Dairies, Inc., soon after the New Year. The CI protocol will include inventory and project accounting for Scope 3 reporting, increasing options for customer buyers. And speaking of meeting buyer needs, we will be continuing to work with customers on co-claiming projects, where we bring multiple companies from a common supply chain together to collaborate on practice changes and share credit for the resulting sustainability improvements.
In addition to increasing the number of available protocols, the Athian team will be working to expand adoption of our existing protocols to include more U.S. producers and meet increasing customer demand. Also watch for our expansion beyond the dairy industry to other species, like beef, and to farming operations located outside the U.S. For example, we are especially excited about progress on a beef pilot in Australia planned for 2026.
In Appreciation for YOU!
Thanks to the collaboration and leadership of our team, partners, customers and farmers, our highlights are more than just a feel-good story; they are foundational steps forward that will allow us to continue to scale, drive opportunities for producers, reduce emissions and create more sustainable, resilient food supply chains.
Cheers to a meaningful 2026!
